Not long ago, a tragic event shook and shocked our country; the accident from the Colectiv club. The accident drew attention toward many aspects, one of them being the need to enhance security in public places. Colectiv sounded the alarm regarding the increased probability of fire starting in a public place. It is absolutely necessary to diminish as much as possible the probability for similar events in the future. The law itself, by its normative for fire safety P118/1999, imposes to ensure fireproof even from the projecting phase of a building. One of the ways safety can be improved and probability for such tragic events decreased is the use of fireproof materials.
Fireproof materials are those materials that cover a combustible surface so that its resistance to fire is enhanced but also as a protection against fire. The proper fireproofing of a material will limit the fire to its starting point therefore diminishing the possible later damages caused by fire. Fireproofing acts this way as a barrier and prevents fire from spreading. Another advantage would be that it allows intervention from within, dramatically decreasing the risk of major fire spread. Any public place should consider this easy and quick safety solution. Fireproof materials can cover a variety of surfaces: one can purchase chairs with fireproof materials, fireproof banquettes, upholstery, but also construction materials: ceilings, so on. It is recommended that thermic and phonic solutions inside to be fireproofed. Another aspect to consider is that some materials are easily flammable: plastic, natural fiber, wool.
However, there are situations when fireproofing is not recommended, such as the case when the material is always in contact with the atmosphere where humidity is 70%. Constructions which will serve as food storages as well as apparent parts of the interior finishing are never to be fireproofed. In order to enhance safety, one can also use fire extinguishing tools, signaling tools as well as emergency intervention means.
